Just like the gentleman’s game itself, there are strategies and plenty of things to think about when buying a home on the links. If you’re in the market for a golf course residence, here are some of the factors you need to consider:

  • Location – One of the most important factors to consider is the home’s location. Homes situated next to tees, fairways, or greens present different situations for homeowners. If you live next to a tee, you may experience more noise or chitchat from players, especially on weekends. The same applies to homes along greens. Homes along fairways generally have less noise.
  • Golf ball impact – No matter where your home is located, you need to prepare for the possibility of impacts from stray golf balls. If this is something that bothers you, then you may want to consider a home located near a tee, as players will be driving away from your home. On the other hand, homes along the fairway are more likely to get hit by wayward balls.
  • Golf carts – Another factor that’s often overlooked by buyers are golf carts. Find out beforehand about the type of golf carts used in the country club. You may want to consider another location in case you find out that they allow gas carts – you’ll be hearing carts move around from sunrise to sunset. Most clubs use battery-operated carts nowadays, however, but it’s still something that’s worth looking into.
  • Close proximity and benefits – If you love playing golf, then living in a home right next to the course is obviously an excellent decision. While the proximity to the course is already a huge benefit, try to find out if there are any discounted club rates for homeowners in the different golf communities you look into. Some golf clubs offer discounts on annual membership dues, which is one of the biggest advantages you can get when you live in a golf community.
